FACE SHIELDS

Scope: Help out hospitals in urgent need of protective gear during the Covid-19 crisis.

01.

Introduction

The Swedish healthcare system was not prepared when the Covid pandemic finally reached the country. Not only was there a heavy lack of proper protective gear for the hospital personnel, but also not really any plan from the government on how to solve the problem.

02.

Additive manufacturing

With the help of makers with 3D-printers around the world as well as drawings from 3Dverkstan, it became possible to start manufacture face shields at home. From there on, the office 3D-printer only stoped printing when it was time to change the filament spool.

03.

Pro Bono

Wikipedia describes the term as professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment for the public good. Unlike traditional volunteering, it uses the specific skills of professionals to provide services to those who are unable to afford them or are in urgent need.

Evermind Design provided hundreds of face shields for free to several Swedish hospitals. We printed day and night until the Swedish government at last executed a more long-term solution.
